Hey babes! I feel like I’ve been out of the blogging game for a hot minute (though it’s only been two days. Does anyone else feel like blog days are comparable to dog years? 1 day feels like 7!) but, as I’m sure many of you have noticed, there are some freaky things going on around these parts. I’ve received a ton of emails/tweets about a virus popping up on my page and I would hate to be responsible for infecting your computers with illness!
Say whaaa? Am I really supposed to understand what this means?
I’ve been trying to figure out the situation for the past few days, to no avail, but after talking to some of you it seems as though my page is working just fine on your computers (rejoice!)
I miss blogging like crazy, but before I start dominating your Google Readers again, I just want to ensure:
- Is my page causing anything funky on your computers?
- Do any of you more tech savvy individuals out there have any idea what the problem can be and/or how I can fix it?
If I get the “okay” from all of you, then expect some postage tonight 🙂 **fingers crossed**

Despite popular belief, a dollar can buy a lot of things:
- a banana
- a double cheeseburger from McDonald’s
- a bottled water (well, depending on where you live. In the city its about $5)
- a Dannon light and fit yogurt (though I recommend you don’t buy them. The greek stuff is so much better :))
- a pack of gum

Final cost: $5.00 (+ tax)
I am an avid dollar store shopper. It’s such a great resource for everything you need (and everything you don’t, but buy anyway). I suppose I didn’t need any more bakeware, but at a dollar a pop I just couldn’t resist.

…and hit the gym for a new workout. I’m trying out this 2 day push/pull split (which means 4 days of strength training per week) to pump up my bod and decrease my cardio a bit. I really liked the diversity of the workout. Tricep dips are my favs 🙂

Watching the same episode of Jersey Shore twice before bed probably isn’t the best idea. I had a dream that Pauly D, Snooki, and I were going on a road trip to Chicago (why? Who knows) and got in to a car accident.
I woke up horrified and craving pickles.
I’m heading home for the weekend to celebrate my MOM’S BIRTHDAY!!! (Love you mom. Love you so ridiculously much!) and go see my brother get his stage director on in the school play. Can’t wait 🙂

What are your words of wisdom for today?
Today was all kinds of backwards.
1st of all – it was snowing, though evidently it’s supposed to be Spring. I am not okay with this.
Secondly, for some odd reason my taste buds were craving lunch-y foods for breakfast, and breakfast-y foods for lunch. I am okay with this.
ozery bakery spelt roll with hummus, bloobs, strawbs, apples, and the obligatory almond butter spoonful.
+ peanut flour (mixed with almond milk, stevia, and cinnamon) and cheerios
Breakfast was easy peasy lemon squeezy. Perhaps a little too easy. I felt as though my culinary ambition was slightly lacking that morning so attempted to compensate at lunch.
After a fabulous strength training session, I was aching for some fuel in the form of carbs and proteins.
Vanilla Protein Cupcakes for One
- 1 scoop protein powder (25g)
- 2 Tbsp almond flour (this worked really well! but I am curious how other flours would compare)
- 1 flax egg (1 Tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 Tbsp warm water)
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 Tbsp greek yogurt (I used vanilla, but I’m sure any flavored variety would be awesome!)
- about 2-4 Tbsp milk
Combine dry, combine wet, mix the two and bake @ 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.

I know there’s a lot of protein cakes circulating around the blogosphere but these are definitely the best I’ve tried (though I may be slightly biased, considering I made them)
HOWEVER, if you attempt to recreate this recipe and it isn’t up to par, don’t hate me. I’ve found that protein powder can be pretty difficult to bake with it and the different powders may create a different taste and texture. I used MRM vanilla whey and it worked like a charm – so if you use THAT powder and it still fails you, then feel free to shun me.
Naturally, two little cupcakes were not a sufficient meal, and you know this girl got her Snackface on as well.

Are you a fan of protein powders? I know it freaks some people out but I find them to a be a really effortless (and delicious, depending on the brand you use) way to get in some calories and extra nutrients. That being said, personally I think it’s more beneficial to the body to get a majority of your protein through natural sources (lean meats, eggs, beans, nuts, yogurt, cheese, etc)

You know, for all of those times when I need to make three cups at once.
Okay, my coffee drinking definitely isn’t excessive as it sounds. I don’t rely on coffee to power me through the day, and rarely drink more than one cup per morning (though my coffee consumption usually happens behind the scenes of breakfast photography)
I sip the bean for the sake of enjoyment rather than stimulation and can definitely get through a day with out it – but where’s the fun in that?
As far as brands and varieties, my palate goes through phases.
Recently I have been infatuated with the bold, rich flavor of Newman’s Own organics extra bold. Occasionally I will dabble in the Green Mountain flavor variety pack that my mom got me for Christmas (caramel vanilla cream is my favorite!) but sometimes they can be a little too sweet for me in the morning (says the girl who eats chocolate for breakfast 6 out of 7 days of of the week).
My all time favorite brand of coffee is actually Dunkin Donuts but for some reason they have yet to jump on the Keurig K-Cup bandwagon. They really need to get with the program.
Lately I’ve actually been finding a profound enjoyment in drinking my coffee black, but when my palate is feeling a little more resistant to the bitterness, I opt for pinch of almond milk, cinnamon, and stevia.
Quick tip: add your coffee mix-ins to your cup BEFORE you pour the coffee in. I usually warm about 2 splashes of almond milk with a pinch of stevia and cinnamon in the microwave for 20 seconds, then brew my coffee right in to the milk mixture. I think it dissolves easier this way and warming the milk first prevents curdling.
Ah, one of life’s simplest pleasures.
